About the work:

Clockworks is a fanfare commissioned by the Glimmerglass Opera Festival to announce the start of each performance and welcome patrons into the theater. Perched on a small balcony above the theater entrance, I always imagined the brass players position for the fanfare as if they were mechanical dolls in an intricate clocktower. The music deconstructs two very simple melodic phrases and spins them out in mechical repetition with dizzying rhythmic displacements.
